PRODUCT DETAILS
A remarkable deadstock Made-in-USA pair of Weinbrenner Ultimate Wading Shoes, preserved unworn in their original Wood n' Stream / Weinbrenner box. Designed by renowned fly-fishing authority Gary Borger, the Ultimate was conceived as a serious all-around wading shoe and became known for its rugged construction, stability and ability to withstand repeated wet/dry cycles.
This pair is especially impressive because of its condition and completeness: new old stock / deadstock, original box, men's size 12 EEE, original laces, pristine felt soles, Made in U.S.A. tongue patches and vintage Weinbrenner branding throughout.
The original box identifies them as stock/style 861-4025, size 12 EEE, and carries the period Wood n' Stream – “America's Great Outdoor Footwear” and Weinbrenner “The Craftsmen of the Northwoods” branding.

THE ULTIMATE WADING SHOE
This wasn't designed as an ordinary hiking boot adapted for fishing.
The Ultimate Wading Shoe was developed specifically around the demands of serious anglers, with Gary Borger's design emphasizing secure footing, easy entry over waders, durability and stability across river bottoms.
According to the original description, the design underwent approximately four years of rugged field testing before reaching its finished form.
Its reputation extended well beyond American trout streams, with the model described as supporting anglers in destinations ranging from Russia's Umba and New Zealand's Hunter to England's Test and Montana's Madison.
That history makes this surviving unworn pair particularly interesting to collectors of traditional fly-fishing equipment.
BUILT FOR WADING
Several construction details show how purpose-built these boots were.
The uppers use a double layer of synthetic leather-like material, selected to tolerate repeated wetting and drying without the cracking and shrinkage that could plague conventional materials.
Those uppers are securely joined to an extra-thick, dense midsole, while the bottom uses a substantial polypropylene-blend felt sole designed to provide traction on slippery underwater surfaces.
Even the heel is substantial. Rather than a completely flat felt bottom, the Ultimate incorporates a full stacked heel, intended to improve footing across rocks of varying sizes.
LACING & GUSSETED TONGUE
The lacing system is another standout feature.
The boot is laced essentially all the way toward the toe, allowing the upper to open considerably wider than a conventional boot. That's particularly useful when getting into wading footwear while already wearing bulky waders or heavy socks.
Higher on the boot, multiple sets of speed-lacing hooks allow the ankle to be secured quickly and adjusted precisely.
The fully gusseted tongue and high-top construction were designed to help prevent gravel and debris from working their way inside while wading.
GARY BORGER
The original side patches specifically identify these as:
“The Ultimate Wading Shoe
Designed by Gary Borger
WEINBRENNER”
That designer attribution is a significant part of the appeal.
Rather than simply carrying an outdoorsman's endorsement, the model was developed around the practical needs of serious fly fishing. The resulting boot reflects an era when specialized wading footwear was substantially heavier, more mechanically constructed and built with an emphasis on longevity.
For a fly-fishing collector, that makes the Gary Borger connection considerably more interesting than an anonymous vintage wading boot.
MADE IN USA WEINBRENNER CONSTRUCTION
Both tongues prominently feature an embroidered American flag patch with “MADE IN U.S.A.” underneath.
The original interior sizing label further confirms:
MADE IN USA
MAN MADE UPPER
12 EEE
861-4025
That matches the original box label exactly.
Weinbrenner's box also carries the company's period branding:
Wood n' Stream
America's Great Outdoor Footwear
and
WEINBRENNER
The Craftsmen of the Northwoods
Even the original box is a great period piece, complete with outdoor graphics and a woodland deer illustration printed inside the lid.
ORIGINAL BOX
The surviving original packaging adds significantly to this pair.
The factory box label confirms:
* Stock: 861-4025
* Size: 12
* Width: EEE
The box retains its vintage Wood n' Stream and Weinbrenner graphics and shows expected shelf/storage wear from age.
Having the boots and their correctly matching original box together is particularly desirable for a deadstock vintage pair.
CONDITION
Deadstock / New Old Stock – New in Original Box.
These appear unworn, with remarkably clean uppers, hardware and interiors. Most importantly, the white felt soles remain exceptionally clean and show no evidence of outdoor use, providing excellent visual confirmation of their unworn status.
There is a handwritten “25” on the underside of one boot, and the original box has a handwritten “$25” notation along with normal age, shelf wear, creasing and discoloration.
The footwear itself presents exceptionally well considering its age.
Please review all photos carefully for the exact condition of the shoes, soles, labels, hardware, laces and original box.
TREASURE HUNTER'S NOTE
Finding an old pair of fishing boots is one thing. Finding the Gary Borger-designed Weinbrenner Ultimate Wading Shoe completely unworn, Made in USA, in a size 12 EEE and still sitting with its matching original Wood n' Stream box is something entirely different.
There are fantastic period details everywhere: the embroidered Made in U.S.A. flag patches, Gary Borger side labels, brass-tone speed hooks, to-the-toe lacing, reinforced caps, heavy welt construction, pristine felt soles and the original box with its 861-4025 / 12 EEE factory identification.
These were built as serious equipment, not fashion boots. Their design reflects an earlier generation of fly-fishing gear when durability, repairability and sure footing took priority over making footwear as lightweight as possible.
For a vintage fly-fishing collector, Gary Borger enthusiast, Made-in-USA footwear collector, Weinbrenner/Wood n' Stream collector or angler building a display of classic fishing equipment, this is an exceptional surviving deadstock set.
